Elayne Cheng, a bubbly homemaker graduated in 1986 (BBA). She did her ‘O' levels and ‘A’ levels in Singapore during the early 1980's and decided to continue her higher education in NUS Business School (then known as School of Management).

She enjoyed her tertiary years at NUS Business School and is extremely nostalgic about her stay at Raffles Hall, the same residential hall where she met her husband Dato' Stephen Quah, a trained lawyer (also NUS) and a prominent business man in Kuala Lumpur. (Yes, she is Datin Elayne Cheng!). She told me she is very proud to be a "Rafflesian", as the Raffles Hall residents call themselves.

The year 1986 was watershed year for many NUS graduates. It was no exception for Elayne. Unable to find employment in Singapore, she was forced to return to Malaysia, as her savings dwindled. She soon found work in a computer firm in Kuala Lumpur doing marketing. Later, she joined Body Shop as a Retail Manager, before becoming a trainer in the same organisation.

Due to her passion for early childhood education and her entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to complete a Diploma course with Montessori and even started a kindergarten with two other partners. Although she enjoys working with young children, she had to forgo her ambition to become a full time mother to her three sons. Currently, two of her sons are studying overseas - one is studying to become a chef in New Zealand!

Elayne enjoys reading, travelling and reconnecting with friends on Facebook. (You can find her slaying demons and fighting monsters at odd hours in the morning…Hahaha!) Occasionally, she might even seek your help if you are connected with her on Facebook to combat these virtual enemies.
